Film Noir look: the same selfie in black and white with one hard light and deep shadows

What is Film Noir?

Film Noir is more than black and white. It relights your photo with a single hard light, so one side of your face is lit and the other falls into deep shadow.

The result looks like a frame from a 1940s film: high contrast, dark backgrounds and a lot of mood.

Works best on

  • Selfies and close-ups
  • Photos taken in dim places like bars or at night
  • Portraits where you want a serious, moody feel

How to get Film Noir

  1. Open Flashley and pick Film Noir.
  2. Choose a photo you already have. One with your face clearly visible works best.
  3. Flashley relights it and checks it still looks like you. It takes about half a minute.
  4. Slide to compare, set the effect strength, and save it in full quality.

Film Noir questions

Will Film Noir change my face?

No. Film Noir changes the light and keeps your face, pose and place. Every result is compared with your original before you see it, and one that doesn’t look like you is never shown or counted.

Can I make Film Noir subtler?

Yes. Every AI photo has an effect slider, so you can keep just a hint of Film Noir or take all of it. Flashley saves exactly what you choose.

How much does Film Noir cost?

Flashley is free to download, and each iPhone gets one free AI preview. Full-quality photos in Film Noir and every other look come with Flashley Plus, from $6.99 a week in the US. Prices differ by country.
